Life Education Caravan - Te Whare Tapa Wha.

May 18 & 19 Te Kauru visited the Life Education Caravan. Our learning focussed on Te Whare Tapa Wha - A Maori Health Model.

We watched videos and discussed: what making good choices means. what barriers there are to making the right choice about a situation, why we find it hard to make the right choices when we are with our friends.

Term 1 Week 3 - Tuturu Tangata Programme

We welcome Whaea Nat from Te Rarawa this week. She will be delivering the Tuturu Tangata Programme to Te Kauru, Te Puawai, Te Manga and Te Putake. The programme looks at keeping ourselves healthy by eating heathly food. In our first session we discussed with Whaea Nat and our class what we knew about being healthy. In the next session we made smoothies and bliss balls. In the third session Whaea Nat provided us with planting equipment and decorations for our plant pots. We were sad we didn't get together with the other 3 classes to celebrate with an activities day, due to our tutors being unwell. We all enjoyed what we got to do.

Welcome to Te Kauru 2022

Proud and Passionate Leaders of Learning in the Heart of the Community. [‘Inā te tūkaha, te tū maia o ngā kaiarataki mātauranga kei waenganui, kei te manawa o te iwi kāinga’] Tēnā koutou katoa. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Warm greetings to everyone. Welcome to term 1 2022. This term is an 11 week term [1st Feb – 14th April]. In Te Kauru we are a year 5 and 6 class with 29 students to start the year. We are very lucky to have a great learning space to work in where we are well spaced and the room is well ventilated too. Te Hiku Film Festival 2020

Our theme for the movies this year was “Life in Lockdown” The movies have been played on the big screen at the Te Ahu Cinema in Kaitaia on Monday 19 October 2020. This is one of the lucky movies to be chosen from our school. Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of this movie. Te Kauru- Our classroom May 18th 2020 Covid 19 Level 2

After the announcement, last Monday, May 11, [schools to reopen Monday, May 18] 2020, all staff at Paparore school met on Wednesday, May 13 to discuss and prepare for the reopening of the school. 

Guidelines, health, and safety, classroom organization, distancing, hand washing, school breaks, duties, buses, hand sanitizing, drop-offs and pickups, clean up surfaces, staggered lunch and play breaks, and as the day went on lots of other things to consider in our classrooms; 

Seating arrangement, toilet breaks, hand washing, sanitizing, classroom equipment,  movement in the classroom, use of devices, entering and leaving the classroom. 

This Monday as we discuss the changes to what we knew as normal there will very likely be more to add to the changes within the classroom and school environment we will have to learn. I sure together as a school community we can deal with the new look and keep on with the learning. We can do this.

The first change the students will see and get used to is the classroom environment. The seating arrangement takes me back to memories of when I was in a senior class with up to 30 + students seated at desks in rows. Not much room to move around. We are so lucky to have a large learning space for the senior class. It is a perfect space for the 30 students, a teacher, and a teacher aide.

Zone Swimmers from Te Kauru

Congratulations to our Te Kauru swimmers for your participation and effort you put in at the recent Zone Swimming sports day in Kaitaia. You all are amazing and did very well.

Congratulations to Damon and Donnie from our class, who are going on to represent Paparore School and our Zone, with Charlie, Riley, Tyson, and Lara from Te Puawai at the Far North Schools event in Kaitaia.

Ripper Rugby

Ripper Rugby session

On Thursday, March 5th we had our first session with Hannah from Sport Northland. 

We warmed up with an All Blacks / Warriors game. Next Hannah went over  a few basic ball skills and the basic rules of Ripper Rugby.

          

                                                                                                     

    

Towards the end of the session, the two boys teams played each other and the two girls teams played each other in a 10 min game of ripper. 

Thank you Hannah Te Kauru really enjoyed their afternoon with you learning ball skills, the rules of ripper and then being able to practise what they learned. 

Swimming

We are practising our swimming strokes for the upcoming zone swimming sports day.

Donnie, Isabella, Karanui, Kaiden, Timo, Damon, Iris, Gemini, Hazel-Rose are all representing our class and Paparore School at the Zone Swimming sports day, 12/3/20.

The World Read Aloud Day encourages reading aloud and sharing stories.

The book we chose to read, 'Say Something by Peter H Reynolds was given to us by a past pupil.
A book that fits in with our school values - Excellence/Hiranga, Diversity/Rereketanga, Integrity/Ngakau, Community and Partnership/Porihanga and Caring for the Environment/Kaitiakitanga.

We are a Manaiakalani class and follow the kaupapa - 'LEARN  CREATE  SHARE'.

On our class blog we will share what we have learned and our creations to show our learning [What we now know].

In Te Kauru we have -30 Akonga [Learners],  Kaiako  Edwina Stevenson and  Kaiawhina - Kelly Paice [Whaea Kelly].  Our classroom is the big building at the back of the school next to the school playground.

Games in the pool

Today we played a ball game in the pool. The aim was to play just like netball, where you have 3 seconds to pass and you can't move with the ball. To score you had to hit the cone down with the ball.

The kids had a great time.
